Columbia Academy VFP students produced this :30 spec commercial for the new Intel iMac computers. We sent the commercial to Apple and they liked it so much that they offered to post it on their educational website! The commercial was directed by Sohrab Sandhu with the entire VFP class involved in the process AND the CA post production class wrote and produced the original music. A truly collaborative effort.

Commercial: 'PSA for BC Children's Hospital'

Columbia Academy VFP students produced this 30-second public service announcement tv commercial on behalf of the BC Children's Hospital and their campaign for bicycle helmet safety awareness.

The two day location shoot, directed by VFP student, Brendan Bailey, gave students valuable training and experience, plus - every student received television production credits to add to their resumes. The PSA has aired numerous times on several Vancouver tv stations.

This story was featured on episode #3, produced entirely by students with the assistance and cooperation of the world-famous gaming software company, Electronic Arts. Hosted by VFP student, Brendan Bailey.

Documentary: RAK the World

"5 Minutes to Change Your World" was a documentary film contest in which teams had seven days to create a 5-7 minute doc. The docs had to show the impact of the topic on the filmmaker's community and show a possible solution(s) or how it transformed their world. Genie Kolinkovsky and a number of CA VFP students completed and submitted their short doc, 'RAK The World', about a group of school children using Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) to help make the world a better place. CA Sound Design students wrote the original music and did the post sound. Out of 13 teams competing, our CA students finished third.

Music Video: Feel You There

"Feel You There" is an original song, written by brothers Brendan and Carmen Bailey.

Brendan (who sings and co-stars in the video was also the Director and Editor) is a graduate of the VFP program. Carmen (who plays drums in the video) is a graduate of the Recording & Sound Design program at CA.

The song was recorded in the studios of the Recording division and the music video was shot & edited in the Video & Film division.

Music Video: Novastatik

VFP students completed production on the first music video for the hot Vancouver, BC band, Novastatik. The video was shot over four days and nights on location in Vancouver and in the CA production studio. The video was crewed entirely by CA's VFP program students. CA Sound Design students did dialogue replacement and created foley on the opening scenes. Novastatik is: Ty March, lead vocals; Mike Lackner, guitar, vocals; Jezza Butler, bass, vocals; and Justin Gendreau, drums. Jennifer Stewart plays the love interest in the video.

A slide show of stills of VFP students creating a special effects shot of a mirror breaking during a recent music video shoot. Director Sanna Whone says, "It was a very difficult shot. We had only one specially treated shatterproof mirror and it had to break on cue with the music. Strangely enough, it wouldn't break at all on the first four tries. We got it on the fifth take, though, and the shot looks amazing."

A feature on the growing popularity of the sport of paragliding. VFP student Producer/Editor Patrick King is an avid paraglider himself.

The owner of the paragliding business was so happy with the story that he has now hired Patrick to create a corporate video for him.

"The First Kiss" is a touching short film, written and directed by Casablanca, Morocco-born VFP student Said Khallaf.

DOP for the film was Bassem Chabou. VFP student Patrick King was the male star.

Short Film: The Silent Room

"The Silent Room" is a beautiful short film about loneliness based on Syrian Folk Art written, directed, and edited by VFP student Bassem Chabou. The film was accepted and screened at the Vancouver International Student Film Festival - one of only ten student films selected.

Bassem has graduated and returned to his native Syria and is working as an Assistant Director for television.

Van Django Performance Video

Van Django is a group of four talented musicians inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grapelli's 1930's gypsy jazz group Quintet Of The Hot Club Of France.  The song is called, Chanson de Cowboy.  This video was produced by the Video & Film Production program students of Columbia Academy, Vancouver, BC.

VFP students in action on location

A slide show of stills taken as the students & staff of VFP worked on shooting a thirty second PSA on behalf of the BC Children's Hospital. The purpose of the PSA was to remind parents to ensure that their children always wear their bicycle helmets when riding to prevent serious head injuries. All VFP students & staff, along with VFP and Recording grad Vu Anh Ngoc Nguyen, went on location for the two day shoot.
