Mission

Columbia Academy is a private post-secondary Broadcasting, Recording & Sound Design, and Video & Film Production training center serving a diverse student clientele. Founded in 1967, CA has been a major contributor of professionals to the radio, recording, television, video and film industries throughout the world, with many of its graduates gaining significant reputations in their fields.

Columbia Academy's purpose is to provide a learning environment that maximizes a student's opportunity to become proficient and confident preparing him or her for a wide variety of career opportunities.

Realistic simulated work environments are the foundation of our programs, designed to hone a student's talents, abilities and technical skills.

Columbia Academy occupies two floors, containing approximately 20,000 square feet, featuring three audio recording studios, one video/film/television studio, two in-house radio stations, plus numerous production rooms, control rooms, computer workstations, labs and classrooms.

Columbia Academy is registered with and accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of British Columbia and is a member of the Better Business Bureau.

Welcome to our web site.  And, perhaps we will soon be welcoming you as a student of Columbia Academy in Vancouver, British Columbia.

For more than forty years, thousands have graduated from our three training divisions and gone on to successful careers in their chosen fields.  Some come into the school with specific goals and aspirations, others with just a general idea of what may lie ahead.  As they progress through the course they may find that their strengths, skills and talents lie in areas of the industry they hadn’t previously considered. And some proceed just as they thought they would, achieving success specific to their original goal. International students from all over the globe have benefited from Columbia Academy training, taking their new skills and honed talents back to their homelands to become assets there.

Columbia Academy provides excellent facilities, knowledgeable, professional instructors and well developed, relevant courses.  It’s a combination of what we have to offer and what the student brings with him or her that results in viable, job-ready graduates. With heavy emphasis on Hands-On training, the Columbia Academy graduate is not just educated but actually experienced when they leave. This is the goal of our training.

Columbia Academy students may be fresh out of high school or they may be more mature people seeking a career change – we provide training services to a wide age range.  Students may come from right here in the Vancouver area or they may travel from distant countries – the student body is composed of a wide variety of backgrounds.  But what all successful Columbia Academy students bring with them is a sincere interest in the area for which they want to train, a dedicated purpose to being here, a strong desire to succeed, and a sense of self-responsibility and personal direction.  Perhaps that describes you.  If so, our paths may cross as you make the decision to apply for career training at Columbia Academy.
