For over forty years, Columbia Academy has been here to help provide opportunities to students from all walks of life, and from around the world, explore their passion in the media, entertainment and communications industries.
Our three distinct career training programs prepare students for careers in these exciting and challenging industries:
Video & Film Production Training Program
Recording & Sound Design Training Program
Broadcast Performing Arts Training Program
Columbia Academy students learn faster and retain more by putting into practice what they learn Hands-On from Day One. All of our programs emphasize practical training over theoretical classroom-based teaching.
Here's what some of our international students have said about Columbia Academy and our training programs:
“I had always wanted to be an on-air personality at an important radio station and I knew training was essential – that’s why I chose Columbia Academy. No other school offers the amount of hands-on practice that Columbia Academy does. The setting was like a real radio station. Thanks to my instructors, I got the courage to apply for my dream job at a major radio station in Vancouver – and I got it!.”
Vanesa Tomasino, El Salvador - Broadcast Performing Arts
"Because of the training I learned at Columbia Academy, I am now directing and editing Christian Music Videos in Quezon City, Philippines."
Marlon Guinto - Video & Film Production
"I just want to let you know that I am doing very well in the industry where I really wanted to work from the bottom of my heart. I’ve never forgotten the kindness that you guys did for me. Now, I work for GONZO K.K., a Japanese animation studio based in Tokyo."
Takashi Yoshizawa - Video & Film Production
Our international student graduates have made their marks overseas, living their career dreams as part of their everyday lives in radio or television broadcasting, music recording & post production sound design, and video, film and television production.
“All of the Instructors are so organized, hospitable, friendly, and know how to lead the student in the right path. So, for anyone who dies for sound, this is the right place to learn and you’ll get a wonderful experience that you will never forget.”
So-Young Kim, South Korea - Recording & Sound Design
“I came from Mexico with a dream – to be a famous film director. Happily I can say I'm on my way. I haven't stopped working. I just got hired as an editor and segment producer. If you have a dream, go for it and don't let anything stop you.”
Rafael Gamboa, Mexico - Video & Film Production
There is no better city than Vancouver, BC Canada to study for your career, and the friendships and memories formed during your time at Columbia Academy will remain with you long after you leave your training program.
“I always had the feeling – how would I be able to cope with the Canadian students whose first language is English? But at Columbia Academy, the whole process of learning was so friendly and easy that I passed my 10 months as if it was only a few days. Vancouver is the best place to be since it is multi-cultural and so many ethnic groups here you will end up being a part of a global family.”
Aziz Dhamani, Bangladesh - Video & Film Production
Since all our career training programs are presented in English, language skills should be at an intermediate level or better (TOEFL score of 213 or higher). Upon registration, international students are provided with an official letter of acceptance so they can attend Columbia Academy. Students must then apply for a Canadian Student Visa which can be done at a Canadian Embassy outside of Canada. (Check with your local embassy for specific policies that may pertain to you).
You can find out more about obtaining a Student Authorization, or working while attending a Canadian educational institution by visiting the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.
