Cheek

Recently recording & mixing tracks at Columbia Academy was the unique Vancouver, BC band, Cheek. Cheek is an imaginative fusion of funk, hip-hop and jazz. This track, "Lifeless", pairs the hip-hop vocals of Dorian Brown with the smooth jazz vocal stylings of Emily Roop. Cheek also features Geoff Alexander on guitar, Edward Perkins on bass, Denham Trollip on drums, Dan Hersog on trumpet, and Addie Perkins on sax. Watch for the release of Cheek's new CD soon.

RAK the World

"5 Minutes to Change Your World" was a documentary film contest in which teams had seven days to create a 5-7 minute documentary film. The docs had to show the impact of the topic on the filmmaker's community and show a possible solution(s) or how it transformed their world. Genie Kolinkovsky and a number of CA Video & Film Production students completed and submitted their short doc, 'RAK The World', about a group of school children using Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) to help make the world a better place. CA Sound Design students wrote the original music and did the post sound. Out of 13 teams competing, our CA students finished third. Says Genie, "If children care and they want to make a difference then, there is a hope for a better future." Truer words were never spoken. Congratulations, team!

The Santa Claus True North Pole Story!

Season's Greetings!  CA students were recently given a challenge - write and produce an original, family-friendly Christmas radio play that would feature every single one of the broadcasting students and instructors - in one week!  Evening class student, Ryan Barker's play, The Santa Claus True North Pole Story! was chosen.

A parody of the long-running documentary television series, The E! True Hollywood Story, The Santa Claus True North Pole Story! tells the tale of the day the Elves of the North Pole went out on strike to protest a lack of training in building today's complex electronic gadgets and toys.   Will Santa work some Christmas magic and manage to save Christmas?  Click "listen" above to find out.  Recorded and edited by CA Recording students, with music and sound effects by CA Post Production Sound students.

Produced entirely by the students of Columbia Academy.  Written and directed by Ryan Barker.  Narrated by John Helm.  Santa Claus played by Brock Hunter.  Julius the Head Elf was Trevor Dueck.
