Broadcast Performing Arts Course Outline

The Broadcast Performing Arts program is ten months, composed of ten 4-week Modules. Each Module makes available a minimum of 80 hours of classroom, practical instruction, and supervised On-Air time. Attendance is five days a week, four hours each day.

Students divide their learning time between Hands-On training, workshops, and lectures. 600 of your 800 educational hours will be spent in assigned duties within the two campus radio stations. You'll rotate through jobs, acquiring skills and improving your abilities through daily work experiences that are typically found in small, medium, and major market radio stations.

Each four hour training day consists of one hour of lecture and three hours of radio station duty assignments.

Station duties rotate hourly and daily. At the beginning of each day, you'll receive your rotation duties that will allow you to fulfill the role of:

  • Program Director
  • On-Air Personality (DJ)
  • News Reporter/Anchor
  • Sports Reporter/Anchor
  • Traffic/Weather Reporter
  • Features Reporter
  • Commercial Remotes
  • Community Events Reporter
  • Creative: Commercial
  • Copywriting
  • Creative: Audio Production

As an example, in the first hour of the broadcast day, you may be the On-Air Personality (DJ). Next hour, you may be doing the hour's Commercial Remote and the following hour, you may be in Creative: Commercial Copywriting. This rotation and the consistency of practice and development in all areas provide not merely 'training', but also EXPERIENCE in the industry even before seeking employment in broadcasting.

The next day your radio station assignments change, giving you a different set of responsibilities, so no two days are ever the same.
